What the Hell is a “Berlincubus?”

Berlincubus is short for “Berlin’s Incubus.” On the lighter side, the word is meant to vaguely resemble names like Beelzebub and Belial, for some anti-establishment flair. But while amusing, it has dark origins.

The name was born from a fascination with WWII— specifically my horror at how one charismatic “incubus” can '“seduce” an entire nation into evil, at how millions could be brutalized just because their ethnicity, beliefs, appearance, or sexuality didn’t fit society’s expectations.

It was effectively a Hitler joke, but the name Berlincubus is gender-neutral. Berlsuccubus and Berlnonbinarycubus just don’t roll off the ol’ forked tongue as smoothly…

It may seem weird, then, that I take the name Berlincubus for myself— and it is. I love weird. The goal is not to identify myself with cruelty, but to denote a fascination with the dark…the chill of being drawn in by something when your rational mind is screaming at you to run.

That is what the Berlincubus name represents: seduction in every form— from literal to political.

Visual Artist ⛧ Gamer ⛧ Proud Queer Heretic

I am Berlincubus— an artist for whom the labels “highbrow” and “lowbrow” are yet another binary to break. Passion for the weird and fascination with humanity’s dark, carnal side inspire me.

Some major themes in my art are tyranny and liberation, kinship and isolation, as well as the fear of our own feelings and the murky lines between our beliefs and our primal impulses.

My work is about introspection and ethical depravity— not just facing the beast within oneself, but treating it with compassion. Being unashamed to love what you love and express yourself…because even the darkest instincts can be explored in a way that harms no one.

Four erotic art pieces on a wall, two of which are by Berlincubus. They feature a topless siren atop a pile of skulls, and a sorceress sitting on a man's lap in their tower.

Taboos are my ink, and horror is my paper.

  • MAIN SHOP

Unchained and unholy. This is where dark art thrives without a single pixel to shroud it. Even if a piece is taken down elsewhere, my full, uncensored body of work lives on here.

  • ETSY

Creativity comes in countless forms. Much of my work is also available on Etsy— the birthplace of not just my shop, but of countless others created by countless macabre artists.

  • Spring

Not all canvases live on walls. Imagery, by its very nature, loves being shared with the world, and a shirt or mug can be just as good a vessel as a frame.

  • Fiverr

Customization— the ultimate expression of freedom. I take commissions through Fiverr, and they can be as uninhibited as the rest of my work…
